Lahore: The Sheheryar Malik Memorial Pakistan Open 2024 saw intense competition in the men’s singles quarter-finals, with Muzammil Mortaza defeating veteran Aqeel Khan in a thrilling three-set match, winning 6-7, 7-5, 6-4. The exciting encounter kept the spectators on their toes at the Sportsboard Punjab Tennis Academy, Nishtar Park, Lahore.
Mortaza, who had a difficult start after losing the first set in the tie-break, showed remarkable resilience to overcome the experience of Aqeel Khan to win. The victory represents an important step for Mortada on his way to the semi-finals of the prestigious tournament.
Mortada was joined in the semi-finals by Mohamed Abed, who easily defeated Abu Bakr Talha by winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. Barakat Allah also secured his place in the next round after Youssef Khalil withdrew after a difficult first set that ended with a score of 6-7. In another exciting three-set match, Shoaib Khan came back from losing the first set, defeating Abdullah Adnan 6-7, 6-0, 6-1 to complete the men’s singles semi-final lineup.
