Sister Wives star Kody Brown shocked TLC fans when he tried to explain why his marriages to all of his ex-wives ended. And of course…it’s not his fault.
In the latest bombshell, Kody Brown gave a very disturbing reason behind his decision to stay married to Meri Brown, his first wife. Kody now claims he never loved her. And says he regretted marrying her from the start.
So why has Kody been stringing Meri Brown along for all these years? I mean, he lost years of his life.
Kody really outdid himself in the latest episode of Sister Wives when he told his ex-wives, “Blame yourself if I don’t like you.” Classic Kody – basically telling them it’s their fault if he doesn’t love them, not his.
The way Kody treats his women has clearly been different from one to the next. Although he has made it public that he regrets marrying Meri and Christine Brown, his relationship with Janelle Brown appears to be another matter.
Kody even made efforts to keep Janelle in previous seasons. He even tried to convince her to stay with him. However, her decision to turn her back on their children, and then blame the children for the estrangement, ultimately became a deal breaker for Janelle.
Sister Wives: Kody Brown shocks fans and blames his ex-wives for failed marriages
Anyone who has watched Sister Wives has seen how Kody has been pushing Meri away for years. During season 18, he began complaining about feeling “stuck” in plural marriage.
He said wives have the power to leave, but that’s not the case. He made it clear that he wanted Meri gone. And then he seemed to be actively trying to chase her away. Many fans see this as emotional abuse. Because Kody would tell Meri that he wanted to try to make it work, only to then deliberately try to make her leave. Kody even admitted that he lied about wanting it to work, so this is clearly a case of gaslighting.
Meri Brown, on the other hand, says they were happy at the start of their marriage. She said Kody loved her. This makes sense, because Meri was Kody’s first wife and he wouldn’t have married her if he didn’t love her at the time.
Meri views Kody’s recent comments on Sister Wives as cruel and thinks he tried to push her away so he wouldn’t be seen as the “bad guy.”
Meri’s realization aligns with the observations of many Sister Wives fans. They too have noticed Kody’s manipulative behavior for years.
SW: Kody stayed with Meri out of fear, even though he claimed he never loved her
The most shocking revelation came when Kody Brown casually dropped the bombshell for the real reason he stayed with Meri, and didn’t dump her in the first place.
Kody didn’t dump Meri even though he claimed he never loved her and regretted marrying her.
In a confessional on Sister Wives, Kody admitted he should have ended his marriage to Meri 25 years ago. But he stayed married out of fear. And the reason behind this fear is deeply disturbing, as you will read.
Kody Brown said he stayed with Meri (and lost 25 years of his life) because “Church leaders will never allow you to remarry if you abandon your wives.”
This breathtaking statement is an admission that he stayed in a loveless marriage, lying to Meri about wanting to make it work, only to keep the door open to marrying more women.
So instead of resolving the issues in his first marriage, either by resolving them or ending the relationship, Kody chose to continue the cycle of plural marriage. Even if it meant keeping Meri in an unhappy and unfulfilling partnership.
Viewers are disgusted that someone who constantly talks about love and family can string Meri along like this just to keep marrying more women.
