From Kansas comes the story of a timeless American woman: a great-great-grandmother who sings, dances and plays pickleball twice a week.
Lois White classifies the elder as “senior citizens” and lived a life of play, sports, love and family that was celebrated from coast to coast.
Pickleball, a type of European paddle but played on a hard indoor court with a hollow, slower ball, is quickly gaining popularity across America as a way to stay active for anyone of any age.
Every Tuesday and Thursday, White takes to the pickleball court at New Century Fieldhouse, Gardener, Kansas. She stands up to whippersnappers in their 50s and 60s.
“Besides that, I play cards every week,” White told KCTV News 5. “I learned to square dance. Then I decided I wanted to play the mandolin. So, I bought books and I play and sing. I belong to the Pickers and the Fiddlers.
Indeed, pickleball is only the most recent example of the richness of White’s life.
Born before a plane flew over Kansas, she married a soldier at 17 and had 6 children.
“We always did what the kids wanted to do. I played basketball, football, etc. ” White said. “My husband and I had a softball team with our daughters for years. »

After her husband died 30 years ago, this “stubborn” woman continued to stay busy – which is easy when you have 6 children, 20 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and now four great-greats -grandchildren.
