Fans of classic cinema – especially mafia cinema – are in for a treat next month as The godfather And The Godfather Part 2 will find their place on Prime Video. Whether it’s your first time or your 100th time watching Francis Ford Coppola’s classic film, you never need an excuse to turn off the lights, pop some popcorn, and settle in for two of the most emblematic (otherwise THE the most iconic) gangster films of all time.

With a stacked cast, an incredible storyline, and perhaps even more behind-the-scenes drama than was happening in the plot, the first two titles in The Godfather trilogy are absolute must-sees when they hit streaming.

With a legacy almost bigger than Hollywood, the first installment of Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather trilogy hit theaters in 1972, long before anyone could dream of an in-house streaming option. The first film was co-written by Coppola and writer Mario Puzo, who wrote the best-selling novel the film is based on. The cast was honestly made up of an insane array of talent including Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Caan, Diane Keaton, Robert Duvall, and more.

Kicking off the trilogy with a bang, the first film introduces audiences to the Corleone family, an Italian-American family that lines up under the leadership of its patriarch, Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando). For over a decade, audiences follow the connected family’s illegal activities and watch Vito’s youngest son, Michael Corleone (Al Pacino), go from selfless, detached outsider to ruthless leader of the family.

Although we can only imagine how incredible it must have been to see this unique, action-packed story performed by all these A-list actors on the big screen, streaming the film from the comfort of your home. is definitely in second place.

A box office success, Coppola’s introduction to the Corleone family blew up the box office, initially earning over $81 million on its initial release against a production budget of $6–7.2 million . Over the years, through multiple re-releases, the film has seen this figure increase by leaps and bounds, with the film grossing between $250 million and $291 million. With the popularity of The godfather in mind and its availability on streaming not only now but also in the past, it’s crazy to think how many people have seen the film over the past 50+ years.

Two years later, The Godfather Part 2 was released theatrically, continuing the story of Michael Corleone’s (Al Pacino) takeover of the family while also weaving in the origin story of how a young Vito Corleone (Robert De Niro) moved his life from Sicily to New York.

Another massive box office success, the Paramount Pictures film raked in a whopping $93 million from its $13 million production budget. Those who catch The Godfather Part 2 streaming will be treated to two rising legends as Al Pacino and Robert De Niro deliver knockout performances in the sequel.

Streaming movies

After finishing watching The godfather And The Godfather Part 2 on Prime Video next month, you’ll be able to upgrade to Paramount+ where a separate TV series called The offer is now streaming. The series pulls back the curtain on the stranger-than-fiction story of what happened behind the scenes to bring the original film to theaters and is worth a watch for those who love the films.

The godfather And The Godfather Part 2 will begin streaming on Prime Video on November 1.
