Australian hockey player Craig has been suspended following an incident in Paris where he was arrested by French police for allegedly trying to buy cocaine.
The suspension, announced by Hockey Australia, requires Craig to serve at least half of his suspension, which began on September 9.
The remaining six months of suspension may be waived if he adheres to the conduct requirements and completes the mandatory training and education programs.
Despite the suspension, Craig remains eligible for selection in Australia’s 2025 squad, with the final squad set to be announced later this year.
The 29-year-old, who was released without charge, expressed deep remorse for his actions and apologized to his family, friends and teammates. Anna Meares, the Australian team’s head of delegation in Paris, described Craig as “a good person who made a bad decision”.
Craig, who made his international debut in 2014 and has made more than 100 caps for Australia, was a key player in the team that won silver at the Tokyo Olympics and bronze at the 2018 World Cup in India.
