The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly decided to appoint wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan as the captain of the Pakistan white-ball cricket team. Geographic News I learned on Saturday.
The sources said Geographic News Rizwan’s meeting with PCB president Mohsin Naqvi has concluded and the president has decided to appoint the keeper as captain of the ODI and T20I teams.
The proposal was made by head coach Gary Kirsten and the appointment was also supported by the national cricket team selectors, according to insiders.
Meanwhile, the white-ball vice-captain of the national team will be handed over to Salman Ali Agha.
This development came after former skipper Babar Azam stepped down from his position as white-ball captain earlier this month, stating that he wanted to “prioritize my performance, enjoy my batting, and spend quality time with my family, which brings me happiness.”
As for the potential new captain of the team, he is skilled and experienced in this department having captained various teams in the Pakistan domestic league as well as Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
The wicketkeeper-batsman was appointed as the captain of the franchise in 2021 and led his team to win the title by defeating Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL final.
