Popular Pakistani singer Aima Baig will perform at the opening ceremony of the Champions Trophy one-day tournament, scheduled to be held today at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad.
The highly anticipated match between Mohammad Rizwan’s UMT Markhors and Shadab Khan’s Panthers will follow the ceremony.
Aima’s performance is expected to add excitement to the star-studded tournament, showcasing Pakistani cricket talent across five teams.
The tournament, which will feature top cricketers from across Pakistan, will start at 3 pm local time.
The event has been organized keeping in mind the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, providing a platform for outstanding players to enhance their chances of selection for the national team.
The total prize money for the tournament is 49 million rupees, with the winner receiving 30 million rupees and the runner-up receiving 15 million rupees. The tournament will conclude on September 29, with the final match being held in the same stadium.
The tournament will feature the country’s best cricket talent in a single league format. Five teams — Dolphins, UMT Markhors, Panthers, Allied Bank Stallions and Norpur Lions — are participating, each guided by accomplished mentors.
Saud Shakeel will captain the Dolphins, and Sarfaraz Ahmed will be their mentor; The Lions will be led by Shaheen Shah Afridi under the guidance of Waqar Younis. Mohammed Haris will take charge of the Stallions team, with support from Shoaib Malik; Muhammad Rizwan will lead the Markhor team, under the guidance of Misbah Al-Haq; Shadab Khan will lead the Panthers and Saqlain Mushtaq will be their mentor.
Games will generally start at 3pm local time, with the exception of the Lions vs. Panthers on September 16, which will start at 9:30am. The tournament consists of 13 league matches and three playoff matches, with the final match being held on Sunday, September 29. .
