The reason why this gentle giant was initially going to die is simple: originally, neither Reynolds nor the studio thought they could secure Hugh Jackman for Deadpool and Wolverine. However, Reynolds confirmed that he already had much of the film in mind, including using the song “Like a Prayer” for the film’s climax.
“Before Wolverine entered the chat, it would be largely the same motion control sequence I dreamed of, except my dance partner was originally COLOSSUS,” he wrote, noting that the latter “would have died in the previous scene, launching Deadpool into a state of pure rage and vengeance.
With Reynold’s typically offbeat humor, he explained how Jackman’s involvement in Deadpool and Wolverine actually saved Wade Wilson’s longtime friend. “Obviously Hugh’s arrival changed everyone’s destiny,” he said. “And Colossus, as well as his virginity, remained intact.”
