ISLAMABAD: The Gilgit-Baltistan Council has embarked on an extensive overhaul within its organisational structure, focusing on cost reduction and operational efficiency. The initiative has seen the repatriation of 45 officers and staff members, previously on deputation from diverse departments, back to their original offices. Simultaneously, the council has taken the bold step of abolishing approximately 261 positions.
Sources close to the matter disclosed that Jawad Rafique, Secretaries of the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan and Sudheer Khan Khattak, the current Joint Secretary of the Council played pivotal roles in spearheading efforts to curtail the council’s annual expenses, achieving an impressive reduction of approximately Rs 270 million.
The return of 45 employees to their respective federal departments is anticipated to yield an annual cost-saving of nearly 90 million Rupees. Additionally, the elimination of 261 positions is estimated to contribute an annual saving of Rs 180 million for the organisation.
These eliminated positions include posts of BS-19, BS-18, and several others across lower grades.
Sources indicate that only a limited number of individuals will continue on deputation based on the present organisational requirements. Plans are underway to facilitate their return to their respective departments in a timely manner.
This progressive initiative marks a significant milestone in the council’s ambitious reform agenda. It’s important to highlight that, guided by the Prime Minister, the Federal government is actively pursuing comprehensive reforms across governmental institutions.
